In a heartfelt valedictory address, the outgoing President of the Rotary Club of Ogwa, Rotarian Barr. Innocent Igboanugo, fondly known as the Magical President for the 2024/2025 Rotary year, reflected on the club's remarkable strides in community service during his tenure.

Speaking during the recent installation ceremony of the club's new president, Igboanugo described his administration as one of transformation, particularly highlighting projects that touched lives and uplifted the local community—most notably, Umueze Ogwa.

He recalled how, in collaboration with Rev. Fr. Augustine Okoroafor (popularly known as Fr. Okocity), the club successfully renovated a dilapidated classroom block in Umueze Ogwa Secondary School. The intervention included repairing a leaking roof, reinforcing the structural integrity of the building, sealing the block, and repainting it to create a more conducive learning environment.

Beyond structural repairs, the Rotary Club of Ogwa also donated books and seats to the school’s library, as well as pews for students who previously sat and wrote on the bare floor. According to Igboanugo, the project brought renewed hope and joy to both students and staff.

“The faces of the students lit up with excitement,” he said. “This singular act demonstrated our commitment to the Rotary ideals of service above self.”

Under his leadership, the club experienced significant growth, recording a 100% increase in membership and full retention. For the first time in its history, the club also produced five Paul Harris Fellows—three of whom are women—marking a significant milestone in Rotary recognition and impact.

He further disclosed that the club’s total contributions to the Rotary Foundation reached $1,965 during the year, underscoring their dedication to supporting global Rotary initiatives.

“I’m proud to say that RC Ogwa was exemplary in executing service projects this year,” he remarked. “Among them, the Basic Education and Literacy Project stands out—not just for its scale and cost, which exceeded two million naira—but for the deep gratitude expressed by the community. They truly see the Rotary Club of Ogwa as a God-sent organization.”

Igboanugo concluded by expressing his gratitude to God for the strength and wisdom to lead, and extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of what he called the “Magical Year,” especially Rev. Fr. Augustine Okoroafor.
