In recognition of outstanding service, commitment to public safety, and remarkable contributions to peace and security, the Traditional Ruler of Alaoma Owerre-Ebeiri Autonomous Community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State has conferred the prestigious chieftaincy title of Ikeoha I on a senior police officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Obikezie Loveday.

The colourful ceremony took place on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the palace of the monarch, Eze Aloysius Igwe, and was marked by pomp, pageantry, and deep cultural significance. The event attracted dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria and drew large crowds of community members and well-wishers.

The occasion also coincided with the coronation of Eze Aloysius Igwe as Ezeoma II and Chinemeze I of Alaoma Owerre-Ebeiri, making it a historic double celebration for the community.

CSP Obikezie, who currently serves as the Commander, CP’s Surveillance Unit, Imo State Police Command, Owerri, was honoured for his unwavering dedication to duty, exemplary leadership, and notable role in restoring peace and stability in Alaoma Owerre-Ebeiri and surrounding communities. The community, which is his maternal home, expressed immense pride in his achievements and selfless service.

While conferring the title, Eze Igwe described CSP Obikezie as “a worthy son of the soil whose professional conduct and commitment to humanity have brought honour to the community and the larger society.” The monarch noted that the chieftaincy title was earned through hard work, discipline, and consistent service, and he offered royal blessings and prayers for continued success in the officer’s career.

The ceremony featured vibrant cultural displays, traditional dances, music, and chants, reflecting the people’s joy and overwhelming approval of the honour bestowed on CSP Obikezie. Although several other recipients were also conferred with chieftaincy titles, the spotlight remained firmly on the newly installed Ikeoha I, who received massive solidarity from the community.

In his acceptance speech, CSP Obikezie expressed profound gratitude to the traditional ruler and the people of Alaoma Owerre-Ebeiri for the rare honour. He congratulated Eze Igwe on his ascension to the throne and pledged to intensify his efforts toward sustaining peace and security within the community and beyond. He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and to support security agencies in the collective fight against crime.

The police officer attributed his professional successes to the visionary and proactive leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, and called for continued public cooperation with the police.

CSP Obikezie was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife, Mrs. Nkechi Jennifer Obikezie, who was also honoured with the title Lolo Omasiridiya, alongside family members, colleagues, friends, and numerous well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the landmark recognition.

Widely admired for his reverence for God, professionalism, teamwork, approachability, and operational competence, CSP Obikezie has attended numerous professional courses and gained extensive experience across various police formations. Colleagues and associates describe him as a bridge-builder with strong detective skills, combat readiness, and an unwavering commitment to the rules of engagement and ethical policing.
