As Ebonyi State marks its 29th anniversary and Nigeria celebrates 65 years of independence, the Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area and leader of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Barr. Chinedu Uburu, has called on citizens especially the youths to support the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, whom he described as “the father of modern Ebonyi State.”

Uburu, expressed gratitude to God for life and progress, and to the founding fathers of Ebonyi, including late Chief Ofia Nwali, late Ezogo Akanu Ibiam, late Mgbada, and former Governor Martin Elechi, among others, who championed the struggle for the creation of the state in 1996.

“Gone are those days when the Ebonyi man was only seen as a farm labourer or the Ebonyi woman as a firewood seller. Today, Ebonyi has its own identity, its own institutions, and its people are excelling in all walks of life,” he said.

He also appreciated the late General Sani Abacha, whose administration created Ebonyi State after witnessing firsthand the plight of the people during the burial of Dr. Akanu Ibiam.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Uburu said Ebonyi at 29 is no longer a child but a state that has grown into maturity, with visible development in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.

Turning to Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary, the ALGON chairman urged citizens to pray for leaders instead of constantly seeking change.

“Leadership is not magic; it is a gradual process. Every administration faces challenges, but we must learn to give our leaders time to perform. President Tinubu and our governor deserve our support and prayers,” Uburu advised.

He particularly commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for what he called “giant strides within a short period.”

According to him, Nwifuru has demonstrated vision and courage through life-changing initiatives, including: Sponsoring thousands of Ebonyi youths abroad for further studies. Constructing strategic roads and bridges, including three major bridges currently ongoing in Ebonyi Local Government. Establishing the ICT University and Aeronautics University, both of which he said will rank among the best in Nigeria upon completion. Driving massive empowerment and infrastructure programs across the state.

Uburu urged Ebonyi youths to resist the “pull-him-down syndrome” and instead channel their energies into constructive support for the government.

“If we keep destroying our leaders with propaganda, we will only be destroying our future. Instead, let us support Governor Nwifuru, who has shown capacity and sincerity in building a peaceful and prosperous Ebonyi,” he stressed.

He also celebrated the prevailing peace in the state, which he attributed to the governor’s leadership style and the cooperation of the youths.

Uburu congratulated Ebonyians and Nigerians on the double celebrations, praying for God’s guidance and wisdom upon all leaders.

“At 29, Ebonyi is a shining example of growth and resilience. With Governor Nwifuru at the helm, the best days of our state are yet to come,” he declared.
