The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has bestowed an Award of Honour on Engr. Humphrey Alozie Owukaeze in recognition of his immense contributions to society and his resilience in the face of challenges.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award during the party's Annual political conference summit, held on Friday at okwadike event center, Vennessa hotel owerri, Owukaeze, a native of Nwangele Local Government Area, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, the party leadership, and all who stood by him during difficult times. He recounted a period of political turbulence that led to his wrongful incarceration, describing it as a trying experience that further strengthened his resolve to serve with integrity.
> “This award is not just a recognition of my contributions, but also a reminder of the day I went to prison for no crime of mine. I am a businessman who has never engaged in any form of illegality, yet I found myself behind bars because of forces beyond my control. By God’s grace and through the intervention of party leaders like Mallam NasirEl-rufia, I regained my freedom. Today, this honour proves that truth always prevails,” he said.
Owukaeze used the occasion to call on leaders across Nigeria to exercise power responsibly and desist from oppressing the people they govern.
> “Leaders must stop using their positions to humiliate others. Everyone has value, and no one should be made to feel like a nobody,” he admonished.
He further encouraged Nigerians, especially the youth, to remain law-abiding, committed, and diligent in their endeavors, stressing that honesty and clean hands are essential when dealing with government institutions.
As the nation prepares for the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Owukaeze urged citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to register and obtain their voter’s cards.
> “I call on my people to go and register, get their means of identification, and be ready to play their part in building a better Nigeria,” he added.
The award ceremony, which highlighted the SDP’s recognition of dedicated individuals, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to celebrating resilience, integrity, and service to the nation.
