In a bid to tackle youth unemployment and boost economic development, Hon. Sam Osuji, the member representing Isiala Mbano State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, has sponsored a skill acquisition training program for 50 youths in the area.
The intensive training, facilitated by Global Solar Power Services, focused on Solar and CCTV Installation and Maintenance. Upon completion, beneficiaries—comprising both males and females—received Certificates of Competency and professional toolkits, empowering them to immediately begin practicing their newly acquired skills.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Hon. Osuji urged the trainees to leverage the skills to improve their lives and contribute meaningfully to the local economy. He emphasized that the initiative is part of his campaign promise to prioritize youth empowerment and economic development in Isiala Mbano.
“This training will be a continuous process. I want Isiala Mbano to become a hub for renewable energy. With these 50 newly trained individuals, we have effectively opened 50 industries and 50 workshops,” Osuji declared.
“Go forth and light up Isiala Mbano,” he charged the graduates.
Chairman of the graduation ceremony, Ven. Amarachukwu Duru, Archdeacon of Oka/Ibeme Archdeaconry, lauded the lawmaker for his visionary leadership. He encouraged the beneficiaries to remain focused and use their skills to build sustainable careers and empower others.
In his remarks, the facilitator and CEO of Global Solar Power Services, Mr. Emeh Sunny Uzoma, expressed confidence in the trainees’ capabilities, noting that they had shown strong commitment throughout the program. He highlighted the growing relevance of solar technology, describing it as the future of energy in Nigeria.
“Solar energy is steadily replacing conventional power due to its reliability and sustainability. It's the solution to Nigeria's power challenges,” Uzoma stated.
“The revolution in solar energy is coming just like GSM. Soon, many homes and businesses will rely solely on solar power,” he added.
Uzoma also applauded Hon. Osuji for investing in youth and human capital development, promising continued mentorship for dedicated trainees. He called for more partnerships and sponsorships from individuals, communities, religious bodies, and organizations to expand the reach of the initiative.
Dignitaries at the event included Hon. Emeka Obi, Executive Chairman of Onuimo LGA; Hon. Deacon Dr. Ajunwa (Isiopi), former SA to the Governor on Artisan Affairs; Chief Chris Ezeala, Chief Okechukwu Anuruo, Sir Chief Victor Uchegbu, Chairman of Obollo Community; and Chief Benjamin Okoro, all of whom expressed delight at the empowerment project and pledged support for similar initiatives.
