The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Mbam, has hailed the ongoing construction of the expansive Vanco Flyover — a 28-span structure accompanied by a 1-kilometer tunnel — as a signature achievement of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration.

During a site inspection on Tuesday, Engr. Mbam highlighted the strategic significance of the project in the state’s broader urban renewal and economic development agenda.

“This project is timely. With the rapid pace of development expected in this area, failure to act now could result in serious access and expansion challenges in the future,” he stated. “Upgrading this corridor will not only ease movement but also serve as a magnet for investors and new residents in Ebonyi State.”

Engr. Mbam also pointed to the state’s aviation infrastructure as a complementary development, noting the synergy between ongoing road projects and air transport enhancements.

“The airport is already operational, and the government’s own airport will soon begin flight operations. Together, these infrastructure projects are laying the foundation for a more investment-friendly environment.”

He called on residents to continue supporting the government’s transformative agenda, expressing optimism about the state’s trajectory toward sustained prosperity.

Addressing concerns about the timeline, the Works Commissioner assured that the Vanco Flyover will be completed within the planned 24-month timeframe, despite natural and technical challenges.

“We’ve encountered obstacles such as the rainy season and the need for rock blasting to achieve the necessary foundation depth. Nevertheless, progress has been steady, and at our current pace, we are on track to deliver the project on schedule.”

Engr. Mbam stressed the government’s commitment to engineering excellence, noting that the project adheres strictly to established technical specifications.

“All materials — including concrete, reinforcement bars, aggregates, and sand — undergo routine testing in our quality control laboratory. We are not compromising on standards. I am confident this structure will stand the test of time.”

He expressed satisfaction with the level of work completed so far and commended the contractors and engineering teams for their diligence and professionalism.
