Maduka Urges Holiness, Backs Church Development Projects at Mbaise Anglican Synod
By Patrick Mgbaja
Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate for Imo East (Owerri Zone), Sir Basil Maduka, has emphasized the importance of holiness, righteousness, and moral integrity in both public service and private life, describing them as essential virtues for societal progress and spiritual fulfillment.
Maduka made the remarks during the First Session of the 12th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Mbaise, held at St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Nguru-Nweke, in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the synod, the LP candidate, who had emerged victorious in his party’s senatorial primary a day earlier, cited Proverbs 14:34 to underscore the link between righteousness and national development.
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people,” Maduka said. “The prosperity and stability of any society are built on justice, truth, and accountability. When corruption and moral decadence become entrenched, they inevitably undermine growth and progress.”
The church knight noted that genuine leadership must be anchored on godly values, stressing that both political leaders and citizens have a responsibility to uphold ethical standards capable of fostering sustainable development.
As part of activities at the synod, Maduka made a financial contribution towards ongoing church projects and fundraising initiatives. He described the gesture as a demonstration of gratitude to God and a commitment to supporting the growth of the Church.
“I came to support the Church in its fundraising efforts for various developmental projects. I have made my modest contribution toward advancing the work of God,” he said.
He added:
“As a stakeholder in the Church, it is only natural to support its mission. Whatever resources God has blessed us with should be used, in part, to strengthen His work and contribute to the development of the Christian community.”
Maduka was accompanied to the synod by the Labour Party candidate for Ezinihitte Mbaise/Ahiazu Mbaise Federal Constituency, Hon. Chidiebere Darlington Anyanwu, and Hon. Lady Chika Anyanwu, an LP aspirant for the Owerri North State Constituency, alongside other party faithful and supporters.
The synod brought together clergy, church leaders, and lay members from across the diocese to deliberate on spiritual, social, and developmental issues affecting the Church and society.
