A prominent businessman and philanthropist, Chief Dennis Ejikeme Okwu, popularly known as “Sweet Apple,” has emerged as the Action People's Party (APP) Candidate for the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency seat in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Chief Okwu secured the party’s ticket following the APP primary election held on Friday, May 22, 2026, positioning him as one of the contenders for the seat in the Federal House of Representatives.

His emergence is expected to intensify political activities within the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru (Mbaike) axis as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 electoral contest. The constituency is regarded as one of the key federal constituencies in Imo State, with growing interest from major political parties seeking representation at the National Assembly.

Speaking to journalists shortly after being declared winner of the primary election, Chief Okwu expressed gratitude to Party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify the mandate given to him.

The APP Candidate described his emergence as a collective victory for supporters of the Party and residents yearning for what he termed “responsive and people-oriented representation.”

According to him, his aspiration is driven by a desire to provide effective representation and attract meaningful development projects to Mbaitoli and Ikeduru Local Government Areas.

Chief Okwu maintained that he possesses the capacity, experience, and grassroots connection needed to secure victory for the APP in the forthcoming election, despite expected competition from candidates of other political parties.

“I am happy with the outcome of the exercise and grateful to members of our Party for finding me worthy to fly the APP flag. I believe strongly that with the support of the people, victory is achievable,” he stated.

The businessman-turned-politician argued that the Action People's Party has increasingly become a viable alternative platform for Nigerians seeking a different political direction.

He criticized the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that many citizens have become dissatisfied with prevailing economic and governance challenges across the country.

Chief Okwu further called on eligible voters in Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency to support his ambition in the 2027 elections, promising inclusive leadership and representation focused on the needs of ordinary citizens.

Political observers believe the race for the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency seat may witness heightened competition as parties conclude their internal nomination processes and begin grassroots mobilization.

With his emergence, Chief Dennis Ejikeme Okwu joins the growing list of candidates expected to contest for the federal legislative seat, setting the stage for what could become a closely watched political battle in Imo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The 2027 elections are anticipated to reshape political alignments across several constituencies in the country, with voters expected to assess candidates based on competence, track record, and proposed solutions to local and national challenges.
