Former Special Assistant on Northern Affairs to the Governor of Imo State, Ambassador Hassan Adamu Sokoto, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Maiyama State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

His emergence positions him among contenders expected to battle for legislative representation of Maiyama Constituency against candidates from other political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ambassador Hassan Adamu Sokoto, who previously served under the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State as Special Assistant on Northern Affairs, is considered a familiar figure within political and inter-regional engagement circles. Political observers say his experience in public service and political mobilization could influence the dynamics of the contest in the constituency.

Speaking during a telephone interview with journalists on Monday, the ADC candidate expressed appreciation to party stakeholders and supporters for entrusting him with the ticket. He pledged to pursue effective representation and prioritize the concerns of the people if elected into office.

According to him, his ambition is driven by the desire to ensure that residents of Maiyama Constituency receive stronger representation and greater attention to issues affecting local communities.

“I will provide quality representation and ensure the voices of our people are heard in the House of Assembly. The people deserve purposeful leadership and policies that directly improve their welfare,” he said.

Ambassador Hassan Adamu Sokoto further maintained that many residents are seeking political alternatives, arguing that there is growing dissatisfaction with the performance of the ruling APC in some areas. He suggested that the electorate is increasingly interested in leadership focused on development, accountability, and inclusive governance.

The ADC candidate also called on voters, including non-indigenes residing in Kebbi State, to support the gubernatorial aspiration of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in the state’s governorship race. He described broad-based political participation as essential for democratic growth and electoral success.

His endorsement of Malami is expected to generate political discussions within Kebbi State, particularly as parties intensify campaigns and alliance-building ahead of the elections.

The forthcoming elections in Kebbi State are anticipated to attract significant attention, with political parties positioning candidates for both legislative and executive offices amid increasing voter expectations on security, infrastructure, economic development, education, and social welfare.

As campaigns gather momentum, candidates across party lines are expected to outline policy priorities and engage constituents in efforts to secure support at the polls.

For Ambassador Hassan Adamu Sokoto, the challenge ahead will be translating political experience and campaign promises into electoral acceptance among voters in Maiyama Constituency, where competition is expected to be keen.

The ADC’s decision to field him marks another step in the party’s efforts to expand its influence in Kebbi State’s political landscape and present alternative choices to the electorate.
