Pledge Support for ’s Successor, Emphasise Unity

Leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owerri Zone have endorsed the recent resolution by the Imo State Elders Council to cede the State’s governorship to the zone at the end of Governor Hope Uzodimma's tenure, describing the move as a significant step toward equity, stability, and political balance.
The endorsement was announced during a zonal leadership meeting attended by party stakeholders from across Owerri Zone, aimed at strengthening internal cohesion and reviewing political developments within the state.
In his address, the Zonal Chairman, Hon. Chief Justus Ogu, commended the elders for what he termed a “courageous and forward-looking decision,” noting that it reflects a commitment to fairness and unity in ’s political landscape.
Ogu also acknowledged the support of leaders from other zones who have aligned with the resolution, stating that such cooperation has helped foster trust and reinforce a shared sense of belonging among the state’s diverse political blocs.
He praised stakeholders within Owerri Zone for sustaining unity despite internal differences, urging them to remain disciplined and focused as the zone prepares for the opportunity to produce the next governor.
“Our conduct at this critical time must demonstrate responsibility and readiness,” Ogu said, warning against actions that could undermine confidence in the zone’s leadership aspirations.
On the question of succession, he reiterated the zone’s readiness to support any candidate that emerges through the guidance of Governor Uzodimma and consultations with key stakeholders, stressing that collective interest must override personal ambition.
The meeting was attended by top party figures, including the Deputy Governor, , lawmakers, party executives, local government officials, and ward leaders.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to unity and pledged to work collectively to strengthen the party’s electoral prospects in Owerri Zone and across the state.
