The Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Nwogba Ebere Stephen, has defended the performance of Governor Francis Nwifuru, dismissing claims that the administration has failed to commission major projects in the state.

He described such criticisms as misleading, insisting that visible development projects are spread across communities, particularly in Abakaliki, where residents can point to ongoing and completed works.

According to him, the governor’s approach has been driven by an urgent desire to fast-track development, which explains the simultaneous execution of multiple projects rather than rushing to commission them prematurely.

He noted that during inspections and commissioning tours, he personally witnessed several infrastructure , including concrete roads, pavements, and rural road networks.

The chairman stressed that these projects are not hidden, as they are evident in various villages, countering narratives that nothing substantial has been achieved.

He further argued that the scale of development undertaken by the governor would require a massive commissioning exercise once projects reach completion, suggesting that the timing, not absence, is the issue.

Reaffirming his stance, he maintained that criticisms of Governor Nwifuru’s performance are unfounded, emphasizing that the impact of governance is already visible and will become even more evident as more projects are completed and officially commissioned.

He highlighted some improvements in rural development from his administration as a local government chairman saying the administration has expanded access roads and enhanced connectivity for economic activities.

He also pointed to interventions in healthcare, education, and water supply, including the establishment of health centres, school renovations, and installation of boreholes in rural communities.

On human capital development, the chairman said efforts targeted at youths and women, particularly in agriculture, where support and incentives have boosted productivity.
