Adding his voice, the Chairman of the Tipper Branch of the NURTW in Imo State, Mr. Chinedu Richard, lauded Governor Uzodimma for what he described as the delivery of a quality road network across the state.
According to him, transport operators, as major road users, have directly benefited from the improved infrastructure under the governor’s 3R Shared Prosperity Administration.
Addressing the gathering, State Chairman Amb. Ikenga Jeff Eze expressed satisfaction with the administration’s performance over the past six years, particularly in infrastructure renewal and enhanced security.
He noted that several completed road projects have significantly improved connectivity within the state and praised the ongoing construction of ultra-modern motor parks as a milestone for the transport sector.
While pledging what he termed “100 percent support” for the administration, the union leader appealed to the governor to further empower members through revolving loans or grants to strengthen their businesses. He also requested land allocation for the establishment of a NURTW Secretariat Complex in Owerri to ease the financial burden of rented office accommodation.
The Imo State Commissioner for Transport, Chief Emeka Okoronkwo, commended the cordial relationship between the Ministry and the union, assuring continued collaboration to enhance road transportation in the state.
Representing Governor Uzodimma at the event, the Chief of Staff, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, accompanied by other top government officials, acknowledged the union’s show of solidarity and unity.
He commended the current leadership of the NURTW in the state for fostering peace and stability within the union, noting that in previous years, union activities were often characterised by internal crises.
Responding to the union’s requests, Anyaehie assured members that the governor had received their address and would give due consideration to their appeals.
The solidarity march comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 Imo Governorship election. During the rally, union leaders pledged to support any candidate endorsed by Governor Uzodimma as his successor.
Observers at the event noted the large turnout and high level of enthusiasm among participants, describing the demonstration as one of the most significant organised labour mobilisations in recent times in the state.
The march concluded peacefully, with union members reaffirming their commitment to the administration’s Shared Prosperity agenda.
