PSC Promotes Adegboye to DIG, Aboki and Dansabo to AIGs; 26,119 Inspectors Elevated
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II).
The approvals were granted at the Commission’s 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, under the chairmanship of DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni.
At the senior level, the Commission ratified the promotion of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye, mni, to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG). Until his elevation, Adegboye served as the AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Also promoted were Commissioner of Police Danjuma Aboki, formerly of the Imo State Police Command, and Commissioner of Police Dansabo Idi, who served as Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. Both officers were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) following successful written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.
In what the PSC described as a landmark decision on career progression, the Commission further approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II). The promotions were based on outstanding performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
DIG Funsho Adegboye, mni has had a distinguished policing career spanning several decades. He has served across key departments including Operations, Training, and Administration, and held command positions as Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in Homicide (FCID), Force Intelligence Department (FID), and Edo State Command. His international experience includes service with United Nations missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.
AIG Danjuma Aboki was, until his promotion, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Imo State Police Command.
AIG Dansabo Idi has served in various operational and administrative capacities, including Divisional Police Officer in Kebbi and Kaduna States, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch in Kebbi, postings at the Force CID Abuja, Area Commander in Yauri, Owo, Awe, and Kosoboso, Commander of the 63 Police Mobile Force, Ikorodu, Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Zone 1 Lagos, Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police, Investment, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and best practices in promotions and appointments.
“These promotions reflect our dedication to recognising hard work, competence, and professionalism. I urge the officers to see their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility and renewed commitment to the safety and security of the nation,” he said.
The Chairman also commended members of the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, led by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), for their diligence during the examination and interview processes.
The Police Service Commission reiterated its resolve to continue strengthening human resource management within the Nigeria Police Force in line with its mandate to build a professional, efficient, and service-oriented police institution.
