Friday, January 24, 2026 — The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has called on lawmakers to review aspects of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) Act that prohibit public office holders from engaging in business activities.

Governor Nwifuru made the call during a courtesy visit by the Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, South-East Zonal Office, Enugu, Mr. Akinfolarin Feyisola, at the Government House, Abakaliki.

The governor argued that public servants should be permitted to engage in legitimate business ventures, noting that such participation would contribute meaningfully to national development, as practiced in many developed countries.

According to him, nation-building should not be left to the business community alone, stressing that public office holders, when properly regulated, can also play a role in driving economic growth.

“I am insisting that we look at the Code of Conduct Act and identify areas that require amendment. The business community cannot build the nation alone,” the governor said.

He further expressed support for constitutional amendments that would allow public office holders to contribute more effectively to the nation’s economic development, while still upholding transparency and accountability.

Governor Nwifuru also congratulated Mr. Feyisola on his recent promotion and assured him of the Ebonyi State Government’s support. He wished the director divine guidance and strength in the discharge of his duties.

Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Feyisola briefed the governor on the operations of the Code of Conduct Bureau South-East Zonal Office, headquartered in Enugu, which oversees Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi states.

He explained that the zonal office is responsible for supervising and coordinating bureau activities in the region, handling petitions involving high-ranking public officers, conducting physical verification of assets declared by public officers, and organizing enlightenment programmes on the Code of Conduct law.

The director also outlined some of the challenges facing the bureau, particularly the lack of adequate office equipment, and appealed for the governor’s intervention.

Mr. Feyisola expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for the support he rendered to him about four years ago while he was in service and pledged his continued and unwavering support to the Ebonyi State Government.
