Stakeholders of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, on Saturday gathered at the residence of the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Dr. Matthew Nwobashi, to celebrate Christmas and reaffirm their political support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Speaking during the celebration, Dr. Nwobashi said the event was organized to share the joy of the season with his people and strengthen unity within the local government.
“Why we are here today is to celebrate Christmas with my people of Abakaliki Local Government Area. This season calls for love, unity and togetherness,” he said.
At the gathering, the stakeholders unanimously adopted Governor Francis Nwifuru as their preferred governorship candidate for the 2027 election, describing him as a hardworking and sincere leader. They also urged eligible voters to verify their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), including names, dates of birth and polling units, to ensure full participation in future elections.
Addressing youths in the area, Dr. Mwabashi called for unity and support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “Out of enthusiasm and happiness, our people have adopted the governor as a sole candidate of the APC in Abakaliki Local Government. I urge our youths to embrace this decision so that we can have a smooth party primary and move successfully into the general election,” he added.
The Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Stephen Ebere Nwaogba, who also served as chairman of the occasion, described the endorsement as total and long settled in the minds of the people. “This adoption is unanimous. It has been in our minds since the day the governor was sworn in; today only made it public. As far as Abakaliki is concerned, we have no other party and no other candidate,” he declared.
Nwaogba commended Dr. Nwabashi for being the first to host Abakaliki stakeholders for a Christmas celebration this year and urged residents to take advantage of the festive period to register or correct errors on their PVCs.
Other stakeholders, including Dr. Chris Achi, emphasized the unity of the Izzi clan and the importance of peace as Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. They expressed gratitude to Governor Nwifuru for promoting peace and stability across Ebonyi State.
Among those who spoke were Akam Paulinus (APC), Ben Nwovu, Chief Mike Udenwe, Peter Nwaogbaga, Roseline Ede, and Virginia Okota, who all echoed calls for peace, unity and continued support for the state government.
The highlight of the celebration was the distribution of bags of rice, cash gifts, and the donation of a cow by Dr. Nwaobashi to stakeholders, adding colour and goodwill to the festive gathering.
