ENTRACO Debunks Toronto/MCC Road Allegations
Describes Incident as “Unfortunate”

The controversies surrounding the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) have gradually been put to rest as the agency has clarified the true situation regarding the recent incident along Toronto/MCC Road, Owerri.
The General Manager of ENTRACO, Hon. Anthony Emeka Anyaehie—popularly known as “The Big Shark”—while speaking with journalists in Owerri, firmly debunked the allegations circulating on social media and in some quarters.
According to Anyaehie, the unfortunate events that occurred were the result of misinformation and the activities of miscreants, not ENTRACO officials. He explained that during the operation to restore order and ensure free flow of traffic, hoodlums and criminals took advantage of the situation to loot traders’ goods, leading to false accusations against the agency.
He emphasized that ENTRACO’s mandate is to maintain a clean, orderly, and traffic-free environment within the Owerri Capital Territory, in line with government directives.
Anyaehie further revealed that prior to the operation, the Owerri North Local Government Council had issued formal notices on July 19, 2025, warning traders and other defaulters to vacate the road and desist from illegal street trading. The council, he said, also provided alternative trading locations for the affected traders.
He referenced an official letter signed by Mr. Ken Anoruo on behalf of the Council’s leadership, which clearly outlines ENTRACO’s lawful position in the matter.
“Our officers were taken aback by the accusations,” Anyaehie lamented. “Many people have allowed themselves to be misled by false narratives. It’s unfortunate that some individuals take pleasure in spreading negativity against genuine government efforts.”
The ENTRACO boss reiterated that the Imo State Government, under the leadership of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, has invested heavily in improving the environmental outlook of the state. He expressed disappointment that some individuals have chosen to sabotage these developmental initiatives by engaging in roadside trading and obstructing vehicular movement.
“We cannot fold our hands and watch people disobey government orders,” he stated. “Governor Uzodinma’s vision is to transform Imo State into a major economic and business hub in the South East, and every responsible citizen should support this effort.”
Hon. Anyaehie disclosed that ENTRACO’s next focus will be Irete, where similar activities have been observed. He therefore urged traders operating along roadsides to relocate to approved market areas to avoid sanctions.
“We are moving to Irete very soon,” he concluded. “All traders must vacate the roads—there will be no exceptions.”
With this clarification, ENTRACO seeks to restore public confidence and ensure continued collaboration in maintaining environmental order and urban development across Imo State.
