The Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State on Interparty Affairs, Comrade Sunday Nwambam, has described Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as the unifying force behind the state’s rapid development and unprecedented political harmony.
Nwambam stated this in Abakaliki on Tuesday during a press briefing to commemorate the 29th anniversary of Ebonyi State’s creation and Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration.
He noted that since the state was created on October 1, 1996, Ebonyi has moved from “the shackles of neglect, infrastructural deficit and poverty” to an emerging hub of development, thanks to successive leaders.
He commended former governors Dr. Sam Egwu, Chief Martin Elechi, and Engr. David Umahi for laying the foundation but stressed that modernization strides are being consolidated under Governor Nwifuru.
“In the last two years, His Excellency, Governor Nwifuru, has initiated life-touching projects that speak directly to the needs of Ebonyi people,” Nwambam said.
He listed the ongoing Vanco Tunnel and Flyover, the Industrial Park, Civil Servants’ Estate, Amaeze–Izzo Housing Estates, reconstruction of the airport runway, smart school projects, Aeronautics Engineering University, University of ICT, and numerous road projects as examples.
According to him, Ebonyi is “on the march” to greater heights, with these signature projects positioning the state on the global map when completed.
Beyond infrastructure, Nwambam highlighted peace and political stability as Nwifuru’s greatest achievements. “Ebonyi State has not witnessed this level of peace in its history. Politically motivated attacks are no more, and virtually all political actors now support the governor,” he said.
He explained that the governor’s inclusive governance style has made him “the beautiful bride of all political parties,” noting that even opposition leaders have joined forces with the administration in the spirit of post-election collaboration.
Nwambam called on the few remaining opposition figures “still sitting on the fence” to drop their combative stance and support Nwifuru in delivering more dividends of democracy to the people.
On the national level, he commended Nigerians for their resilience despite the challenges facing the country. He urged politicians across board to renew their patriotic zeal and work towards strengthening democratic institutions as Nigeria marks 65 years of independence.
