Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has described his administration as the “most loved government,” pledging to redouble efforts to serve the people and sustain their confidence.

Nwifuru made this known at a stakeholders’ luncheon organized by the state government to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary and Ebonyi’s 29th year of statehood, held at the Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.

Expressing gratitude to Ebonyians for what he called “overwhelming love and goodwill,” the governor said the support he has received since assuming office has become both a challenge and a motivation to do more.

“I want to make this promise. I have seen a lot, but I am consoled by the words of the two former governors who spoke during the Independence Day celebration. I will never disappoint you. I will continue to make you proud by the special grace of God, even when we bow out,” Nwifuru assured.

He also described the tributes paid by former governors of the state as consoling and strengthening, adding that their submissions reinforced his determination to remain committed to the people throughout his tenure.

While appreciating citizens for their patience, prayers, and contributions to the success of his government, Nwifuru likened governance to a collective enterprise. He said:

“The government belongs to the people, not to me alone. I see myself as a general manager while other leaders are branch managers, working together as partners in progress.”

Former Governor Martin Elechi, who attended the event, commended Nwifuru’s humility and openness to advice. “What we have seen today shows that the present government is not only people-oriented but also ready to learn and improve. That gives us confidence about the future of Ebonyi,” he said.

Another former governor, Chief David Umahi, urged stakeholders to rally behind the administration for continuity of peace and development. “Governance is not a one-man show. The state will achieve more if we all support the sitting government to succeed,” Umahi noted.

Some stakeholders also spoke on the significance of the governor’s remarks. Chief Amaka Nworie, a traditional ruler from Izzi, said: “The governor has reassured us that he will not fail the people. That kind of commitment is what our people want to hear, and we will hold him to it.”

Opposition voices, however, cautioned the government to match words with action. A PDP chieftain, Mr. Emmanuel Nwodo, told reporters after the event: “We appreciate the governor’s promises, but what Ebonyians need most are concrete results in infrastructure, education, and jobs. Love from the people must be earned by performance.”

The governor reaffirmed his promise never to disappoint the people, emphasizing that his administration would continue to work tirelessly to deliver results and make Ebonyians proud both now and in the future.
