In a major stride toward improvingl maternal and child health in Imo State, the Ministry of Health—under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. Chioma Vivian Egu—partnered with the Egbuoma Community Development of Oguta LGA to organize a one-day intensive training program for healthcare workers across the state.


Held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Eze Imo Palace Conference Hall, Mbari, Owerri, the event brought together frontline health workers from all 27 Local Government Areas of the state. The training kicked off promptly at 8:30 a.m., drawing an impressive turnout of medical professionals committed to advancing maternal and newborn care.


The program was officially declared open by Dr. Egu, who represented the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. Her opening remarks emphasized the state government’s dedication to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality through capacity building, community engagement, and policy-driven healthcare reforms.



The event was marked by the presence of distinguished stakeholders and healthcare experts who contributed to the robust knowledge-sharing sessions. Participants were trained on updated practices in maternal and neonatal healthcare, with a strong focus on early intervention, preventive care, and efficient service delivery.


Dr. Egu lauded the collaboration with the Egbuoma Community Development group, highlighting the initiative as a model for grassroots involvement in public health. She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to building a resilient health system across Imo State, anchored on training, infrastructure, and partnership.


The training was widely hailed as a resounding success, equipping healthcare providers with practical tools and strategies to improve outcomes for mothers and newborns across the state.
