ADC Inaugurates New State Executive Committee in Imo, Reaffirms Commitment to People-Centered Governance
By Kelechi Ugo
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially inaugurated its State Executive Committee (SEC) in Imo State, marking what the party described as a significant leap toward restoring progressive, people-oriented politics in the state.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the party’s State Headquarters in New Owerri, was more than a routine political event — it was a bold declaration of the ADC’s readiness to provide credible leadership, inclusiveness, and a real alternative to the political status quo in Imo.
Delivering his first remarks as the newly inaugurated State Chairman, Prof. James Okoroma pledged to uphold the party’s core values of integrity, transparency, and grassroots engagement. He emphasized that the ADC would not only be a strong opposition voice but also a proactive driver of justice, accountability, and equitable development.
“Today marks the beginning of a renewed movement driven by vision, capacity, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Imo,” Prof. Okoroma stated. “We are building a platform where leadership is earned, not imposed — where service comes before self.”
The newly constituted SEC comprises experienced professionals, technocrats, and community leaders drawn from various zones across the state. The composition reflects the party’s strategy to deepen unity, widen its grassroots mobilization, and prepare for future elections.

In addition to the State Executive Committee, zonal leadership across the Owerri, Okigwe, and Orlu zones was also inaugurated. These zonal executives are tasked with driving the party’s outreach, strengthening its local structures, and ensuring that ADC’s message resonates at every level of the political landscape.
Zonal Chairpersons:
- Hon. Ben Mere – Owerri Zone
- Damian Ezeruo – Orlu Zone
- (Okigwe Zone chair not specified, but other key officers inaugurated)
Each zone boasts a balanced representation of youth, women, and political veterans — a deliberate move by the party to promote inclusiveness and grassroots ownership.
The ADC leadership used the opportunity to call on Imo citizens, especially the youth and other marginalized groups, to join the movement and participate actively in building a fairer and more just society.
Moving Forward
With the inauguration of its new leadership structure, the African Democratic Congress in Imo State has positioned itself as a viable alternative party ahead of future political contests. Party officials reiterated their mission to offer purposeful governance and champion democratic values in both Imo State and Nigeria at large.
“Our focus remains clear — to bring integrity back to leadership and to give power back to the people,” said Chief MacDonald Amadi, the newly appointed Publicity Secretary.
The ADC leadership affirmed that this is only the beginning of a broader political movement that will reshape the narrative of governance in Imo and beyond.
