Omuruka led Imo Council of Town Unions President-Generals hails Women Affairs Commissioner,Director,Mrs Azubuike others for successful GBV workshop in Owerri.

Imo State Council of Town Unions President-Generals under the leadership of Hon. Kingsley Chigozie Omuruka has commended the State Commissioner for Women Affairs,Mrs Nkechi Ugwu, the Ministry Director,Mrs. Blessing Azubuike among others for organizing a successful 3-day training for the President-Generals on Gender Based Violence.
The huge success workshop organized by the Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in collaboration with the Office of the State First Lady with support from UN Women aimed at preventing harmful traditional practices and gender based violence took place at Rockview Hotel,Owerri between 1st and 3rd July,2025.
However, participating President-Generals expressed satisfaction over the rich content of the workshop and impactful knowledge on the "subject matter" from the resource persons.
Speaking to newsmen immediately after the event, the President of Imo State Council of Town Unions President-Generals,Hon. Kingsley Chigozie Omuruka praised the organizers of the training especially the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare,Mrs. Nkechinyere Ugwu and the Ministry Director,Mrs. Blessing Azubuike for ensuring a hitch-free programme.
"This programme is a wonderful one. We have been able to know the reality of gender violence. This has changed our earlier narrative that goes to women anytime gender based violence is mentioned. It is not only for women,men are equally among. Although, women always speak out, while some men choose to maintain silent.
We,therefore thank Imo State Government for providing us this wonderful opportunity to learn how to ensure peaceful co-existence in our respective families and communities", Omuruka stated.
Also speaking, the Secretary of Imo State Council of Town Unions,Nze Placidus Ebere ndu, the Unions' State Public Relations Officer,Hon. Fidelis Akamere and President of President-Generals, Okigwe LGA,Dr. Charles Umezuruike stated that the training was educative,promising to organise lectures at the community level in order to domesticate Imo State Gender Based Violence,GBV law.
