2027 Presidency: PDP Now Tinubu’s Support Group – AIBJ Chairman, Comr. Ugo

As political maneuvering intensifies ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, Comrade Kelechi Benjamin Ugo, Chairman of the Association of Imo State Based Journalists (AIBJ), has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as having morphed into a support group for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during a media interaction with The Pressman Newspaper and other journalists in Owerri, Comr. Ugo expressed disappointment at what he termed the PDP’s fading relevance, particularly in Imo State.

“Once a vibrant opposition force, especially dominant around the Owerri and Okigwe axis, the PDP has become a shadow of itself,” Ugo stated.

He attributed the party’s decline to the influence of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, whom he described as “a loyal ally of President Tinubu and a de facto APC member.”

According to Ugo, Wike’s continued influence within the PDP has undermined its integrity and blurred the lines between opposition and ruling party politics.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Comr. Ugo pointed to the rising profile of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he said is gaining traction nationwide.

“The ADC is gradually building a formidable presence across the country. If the momentum continues, the party could shock many observers by emerging victorious in 2027,” he predicted.

As Nigeria approaches another critical election cycle, observers are watching closely to see how the country’s major and emerging parties position themselves—and whether the PDP can reclaim its role as a credible opposition force.
