The Tipper Branch Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Imo State, Mr. Chinedu Richard, has congratulated Hon. Chief Austin Onyedebelu on his emergence as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Imo State chapter.
Onyedebelu emerged through a consensus arrangement during the party’s State Congress held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Before his election, he served as the Managing Director of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC).
In a statement made available to journalists, Richard described the new APC chairman as “a square peg in a square hole,” noting that Onyedebelu possesses the competence, experience, and leadership qualities needed to strengthen the Party and reposition it for greater political success in the State.
He further noted that Onyedebelu’s emergence from the Orlu Zone has created what he described as a strategic political balance within the State, which could potentially open the door for either Owerri or Okigwe Zone to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2027.
According to him, the APC remains the dominant political platform in the State, adding that the Party continues to attract grassroots mobilizers and experienced politicians across Imo.
Richard also commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for what he described as his impartial and statesmanlike role during the congress, which he said ensured a peaceful and hitch-free exercise.
“The transparent and peaceful conduct of the congress demonstrates the governor’s commitment to internal democracy and party unity,” he said.
He called on the Party members to rally behind the newly elected leadership to consolidate the achievements of the APC administration in the State and strengthen the Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
