The Anglican Church of Nigeria, through St. Peter’s Anglican Church Irete in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, has honoured former Assistant Secretary and Communications Committee Chairman of the Jisike Regional Development Foundation (JRDF), Comrade Nnamdi Benson Azuokwu, in recognition of his humanitarian services and dedication to the work of God.

The award was presented on Sunday during activities marking the church’s four-day crusade and the celebration of Mothering Sunday.

Speaking to journalists after the event, the Archdeacon of Irete Archdeaconry and Vicar of St. Peter’s Anglican Church Irete, Venerable Evans Chidi Amadi, PhD, said the honour was aimed at encouraging individuals who have distinguished themselves in service to God and humanity.

According to him, the recognition formed part of the church’s annual activities during the Lent season, a period Christians devote to spiritual reflection, fasting and prayer.

He explained that the observance begins with Ash Wednesday, when ash is placed on the foreheads of Christians as a symbol of penitence and spiritual renewal.

> “It is a time for deep reflection and repentance. Though it is often a period of temptation, it is also a time to seek the face of God through fasting and prayer,” he said.

Archdeacon Amadi further noted that the season reminds Christians of the biblical account of Jesus Christ fasting for 40 days and nights before facing temptation.

He congratulated the award recipients and urged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to service and good works.

Responding, Azuokwu expressed gratitude to the church for the recognition, describing the honour as both humbling and motivating.

The community leader from Ndiuloukwu Autonomous Community, Izombe in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State said the award would inspire him to intensify his humanitarian and community development efforts.

Azuokwu currently serves as the Publicity Secretary of Oguta LGA and is widely known for his contributions to grassroots development and community service.

He pledged to continue supporting initiatives that promote social welfare, community growth and Christian service.
