The Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Maryann Nkwegu, has advised young people to steer clear of social vices and embrace responsible conduct as they celebrate Valentine’s Day.

In a Valentine message made available to journalists, Nkwegu cautioned against reducing the occasion to unhealthy competition or reckless behaviour, stressing that the day should promote love, kindness, mutual respect, and meaningful relationships founded on positive values.

She urged youths to mark the celebration with dignity, prioritize their safety and well-being, and resist peer pressure that could lead to regrettable decisions.

According to her, responsible expressions of love should uplift and not endanger the future of young people.

Nkwegu also called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to take active roles in guiding youths toward positive choices, emphasizing that genuine love is reflected in respect, care, and responsible actions.

Reaffirming her commitment to sustained advocacy against gender-based violence under the administration of Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Governor’s aide appealed to all stakeholders to collaborate in building a safer and more responsible society where young people can thrive.
