The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has said Ebonyi State is currently leading the country in scholarship programmes, following the massive investment of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in human capital development.
Ogah made the assertion while reacting to the Ebonyi State Government’s ongoing scholarship scheme, which has seen dozens of students sponsored for studies both locally and abroad.
According to him, 92 beneficiaries in the second batch of the state government scholarship programme were airlifted to the United Kingdom on Monday to pursue postgraduate studies in various universities.
He recalled that in 2024, the state government sent about 300 Ebonyi indigenes to top universities in the United Kingdom for Master’s and PhD programmes under the first batch of the scholarship scheme, fully sponsored by the state through its Scholarship Board.
The lawmaker described Governor Nwifuru as a visionary and people-oriented leader, noting that his decision to invest heavily in education and human capital development has clearly distinguished him from other leaders.
Ogah said the scholarship initiative would have a transformative effect on the educational landscape of Ebonyi State and lay a solid foundation for long-term development.
He commended the governor for what he described as a rare “heart of giving,” stressing that the administration’s policies and programmes are deliberately designed to touch lives across all sectors.
“His Excellency, our dear Governor, is laying strong legacies in infrastructure, the civil service, human capital development, education, health and other critical sectors of governance. His programmes and policies are people-oriented,” Ogah said.
He added that the scholarship scheme would create a positive chain reaction in the education sector and expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership style, which he said has earned widespread acceptance across the state.
The lawmaker urged the scholarship beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies and conduct themselves responsibly, noting that they carry the image of Ebonyi State and must make the governor, their families and the state proud.
