The Ebonyi State Government has sponsored another batch of ninety indigenes for postgraduate studies in top universities abroad, with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru charging the beneficiaries to remain disciplined, focused and humble as they pursue academic excellence.

The governor gave the charge during the flag-off ceremony for the overseas trip of the scholarship beneficiaries, who will study in reputable institutions including the University of Greater Manchester, Clifford University, and other universities in Canada.

Governor Nwifuru urged the students to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on their families, the state government and Ebonyi State at large, emphasizing the values of integrity, hard work and excellence.

“I charge you, our dear awardees, to be disciplined, focused and humble. Avoid anything that will bring shame to your families, this government or our dear state,” the governor said.

He reminded the beneficiaries that the scholarship programme represents a collective sacrifice by the people of Ebonyi State — farmers, traders, civil servants, taxpayers and artisans — who have entrusted them with the hope that they will return to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.

“Every naira spent on this scholarship is a collective sacrifice of our people. They believe that your success will one day translate into a stronger and more prosperous Ebonyi State. Please do not betray this trust and be good ambassadors of the state,” he added.

Governor Nwifuru commended the Ministry of Tertiary Education and the State Scholarship Board for their commitment to transparent selection processes and effective monitoring of beneficiaries, praising their dedication to human capital development.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Scholarship Board, Chief Chaka Nweze, expressed gratitude to the governor for prioritizing education and human capital development. He urged the beneficiaries to maximize the rare opportunity and return as better citizens equipped to serve Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large.

It would be recalled that no fewer than 285 students were airlifted abroad last year under the same scholarship programme.
