Tributes as Abba-Born Businessman, Ajuonuma, Buries 105-Year-Old Mother

It was an atmosphere of deep emotion and solemn celebration on Friday, January 9, 2026, as Ndiuhu Umudurunna-Abba Community in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State stood still for the burial of Senior Mother Cyrina Akuebionwu Ajuonuma (née Ohatunam Duru), who passed on at the ripe age of 105.
The deceased was the mother of renowned Abba-born businessman, Chief Isaac Ajuonuma, who led family members, friends, and well-wishers in giving her a befitting farewell.
The funeral ceremony attracted top government functionaries, clergymen, captains of industry, members of the business community, and traditional rulers from within and outside the state. Among the dignitaries present was the traditional ruler of Ogwuaga-Abba Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Obinna Akwiwu, alongside other notable personalities.
Speaking during the event, the first son of the deceased, Chief Isaac Ajuonuma, described his late mother as a virtuous, prayerful, and disciplined woman whose life was marked by humility and service to humanity. He recounted how he ensured her welfare throughout her lifetime and expressed hope that his own children would show him similar love and care in old age.
In a message of appreciation, Chief Ajuonuma thanked Almighty God for granting his mother a long, fulfilled life and expressed profound gratitude to relatives, friends, neighbours, church members, political associates, club members, teammates, colleagues, and other well-wishers for their support during the period of mourning.
“Your prayers, visits, words of comfort, acts of kindness, and show of love have been great sources of strength to our family,” he said. “We deeply appreciate every effort made to honour the memory of our beloved mother. May the good Lord reward you abundantly and grant you peace.”
Also speaking, the last son of the deceased, Rev. Kelechi Ajuonuma, described his late mother as a devoted servant of God who lived a life of faith and obedience. He prayed for God to grant her eternal rest and comfort the family she left behind.
The funeral rites were marked by hymns, prayers, cultural displays, and heartfelt tributes celebrating a woman whose legacy of love, faith, and longevity remains etched in the hearts of many.
