The host community of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, Ebonyi State, has petitioned the Chief Medical Director, Professor Agwu Uzoma, over alleged N7.5 billion budgetary allocations to the hospital in the past two years.
In the petition signed by their lawyer, Lucky Ezealor, the community invoked the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, demanding details of budget releases, project approvals, contractors, and implementation records for 2023–2025.
They listed several projects worth billions of naira, including construction of Intern Hostels (₦1.45 billion), newborn intensive care complex (₦728.7 million), and outreach programmes across five states totaling over ₦1.1 billion.
The community gave the hospital seven days to release the documents or face legal action.
Reacting, DUFUTH’s Public Relations Officer, Agwu Nwogo, said the hospital operates transparently under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Health and follows Bureau of Public Procurement standards.
He, however, described the timing of the demand as “suspicious,” linking it to recent tensions following the siting of the DUFUTH College of Health Technology in a neighbouring community.
