The Chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Community Policing, HRM Eze E. C. Okeke, has called on traditional rulers across the state to collaborate closely with the newly established vigilante groups to enhance security and maintain peace in their communities.

Eze Okeke gave the charge on Tuesday while addressing journalists shortly after the council held its second-to-last meeting of the year at its Secretariat in Owerri.

According to him, the meeting focused extensively on effective community policing, particularly the operations and integration of the new vigilante units inaugurated to support local security efforts. He emphasized that traditional rulers, as custodians of their communities, must take full responsibility for safeguarding lives and property.

“We have passed out many vigilante personnel who are now ready to serve their various communities and surrounding areas,” he said. “This meeting was convened to update the Ezes on the new development and to remind them of their roles as the chief security officers of their communities.”

The traditional ruler of Amaifeke autonomous community in Orlu LGA commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his continued commitment to tackling insecurity in the state.

“Governor Hope Uzodimma has made us proud. He is genuinely fighting insecurity, and we appreciate his tireless efforts to ensure Imo State remains safe. The Ezes must continue to support the government’s efforts in protecting lives and property,” he noted.

Also speaking, HRH Eze Emma Assor, traditional ruler of Assa autonomous community, urged members of the new vigilante outfit to discharge their duties in strict compliance with state laws.
