Fresh tension hits  Obile Community as Omuruka Calls for Probe into Killings, Accuses Ohaji/Egbema Chairman, Amadioha,Vice Chair,Mrs. Opara, Obido, Abyssina Ogbuji of Collusion

The President-General of Obile Town Union and current President of the Imo State Council of Town Union Presidents, Hon. Chigozie Kingsley Omuruka, has called on the Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, as well as top security agencies, to launch an urgent investigation into a wave of killings and violent attacks in the oil-rich Obile Autonomous Community, Ohaji/Egbema LGA.

Hon. Omuruka is specifically urging the Inspector General of Police, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Brigadier Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, and the State Director of the DSS to probe the roles of the Ohaji/Egbema LGA Chairman, Prince Marcel Amadioha, his Vice Mrs. Elizabeth Ulumma Jude Opara, and others including Paschal Ndubuisi Obido, Abyssina Ogbuji, and Ndubuisi Obido, in the killings and escalating insecurity in the community.

Omuruka alleges that Mr. Obido, controversially appointed as President-General of Obile Town Union on February 10, 2025, by Prince Amadioha, is the ringleader of a cult group known as "Islam" responsible for multiple murders, kidnappings, and destruction of property in the community.

Among the victims, according to Omuruka, is Mr. Denoute Gbaraka, an employee of Endroma Oil Servicing Company, who was shot dead on October 1, 2025, during an attack on the residence of Hon. Dr. Henry Adimelechi, landlord to several oil company workers. Another indigene, Mr. Chinedu Chukwu, was also allegedly killed by the same group.

The attackers reportedly looted a local provision store owned by one Mr. Daniel, destroying property and carting away cash and goods. A Toyota Hiace bus was also set ablaze during the rampage.

Additionally, a man popularly known as “Onwa” from the Ogbonna family was said to have been kidnapped by the same group on the same night.

Omuruka further claimed that five people have been killed since Mr. Obido assumed office as PG, with the violence peaking in recent months. He referenced other incidents including:

The murder of Mr. Nestor Izuchukwu on February 19, 2025, with his body discovered three days later.

The killing of Mr. Ozoemela Onyekwere in August 2025, allegedly by Obido and his associates.

Hon. Omuruka criticized the LGA Chairman, Prince Amadioha, for allegedly turning a blind eye to the violence in Obile, contrasting it with the swift security responses often seen in his own Etekwuru community.

“It is unfortunate that while lives are being lost and fear grips Obile, the Chairman has done nothing. No deployment of security, no statement, nothing,” Omuruka said. “Our people are under siege, and those in charge of leadership are looking the other way.”

Hon. Omuruka dismissed allegations made by Obido’s camp accusing his own administration of poor leadership and financial mismanagement. “There was no subvention to the Town Union. Yet, I built a health centre and facilitated the establishment of Government College, Obile — the only secondary school we have since our community was created over two decades ago,” he stated.

He recalled being attacked by Mr. Obido and his group during a 2024 relief material distribution event in Izombe, organized by Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu (Member, House of Representatives for Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta & Orlu West), describing it as the starting point of Obido’s ambition to seize control through violence.

“Now they want to ‘Islamize’ our community by force and fear,” Omuruka alleged, referring to the cult group's influence.

Hon. Omuruka appealed to Governor Uzodimma, security agencies, and federal authorities to swiftly set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the ongoing crisis and prosecute those responsible.

“This is not about politics. This is about justice for the dead and safety for the living. Our Governor, a man who abhors crime, must intervene now,” he said.

As at press time, attempts to reach Mr. Paschal Ndubuisi Obido, Chairman Prince Marcel Amadioha, and Mrs. Elizabeth Ulumma Jude Opara for comments have been unsuccessful.

Residents of Obile remain fearful amid the growing insecurity, with local leaders warning of a potential breakdown of law and order if urgent action is not taken.
