The Ebonyi State Government has launched the Craftsman Youth and Industrial Innovative Skills Training programme aimed at transforming the future of young people in the state through practical and industrial skill development.
The programme, powered by the Ministry of Skill Development and Job Creation in partnership with IEURKA, was flagged off on Friday at Block 8, Centenary City, Abakaliki.
Flagging off the event, the Commissioner for Skill Development and Job Creation, Hon. Okwu Oko Udu, commended Governor Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for initiating what he described as a “perfect reflection of his governance philosophy — a government that builds people, empowers communities, and inspires productivity.”
Udu noted that the Governor’s commitment to empowering young people with practical, hands-on skills has placed Ebonyi State on the path of industrial growth and sustainable development.
He added that the administration is not only investing in infrastructure but also in human capital — “the greatest asset any state can possess.”
He urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the opportunity and become true craftsmen capable of contributing meaningfully to the industrial and economic development of the state.
According to him, trainees will be equipped with skills such as construction of fish dryers, welding and handling of industrial equipment, operation of lathe machines, and fabrication of ovens, mixers, and peanut-processing machines, among others.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of IEURKA, Engr. Kelechukwu Ibe, in his welcome address, lauded the initiative, describing it as a redefinition of the future of Ebonyi youths.
He noted that Ebonyi is not only known for its beauty but also for producing some of the most talented and intellectually driven youths in Nigeria.
In their goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Market and Park Development, Prof. Ajuka Nwogo; Special Assistant to the Governor on Works, Barr. Ola Irem; Special Assistant on Industrial Cluster, Hon. Queen Happiness Aja, commended Governor Nwifuru for prioritizing youth empowerment.
They emphasized that skill acquisition is the way forward for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria and encouraged participants to remain focused and diligent throughout the training.
