Eminent businessman and political figure, Citizen Akirika Okoro, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives involving members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses from the Agwa community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

The fatal accident occurred on Sunday, September 7, 2025, along the Owerri-Onitsha Road, near Awomama Bridge.

Fifteen members of the Agwa community were reported dead after a trailer, allegedly driving against traffic, collided with a commercial bus conveying the victims home from their annual Jehovah’s Witness Assembly in Uli, Anambra State.

Describing the incident as "shocking, terrible, tragic and pathetic," Citizen Okoro conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Agwa community, and the people of Oguta LGA.

He called on security agencies and the Imo State Government to ensure that the driver responsible for the crash is held accountable.

“This is a moment for unity and compassion,” he stated. “Only God can truly console the grieving hearts and bring healing. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”

Citizen Okoro urged the Agwa community and affected families to remain strong and united in faith, adding that the memories of their loved ones would remain indelible.

In a separate development, Citizen Akirika Okoro also lauded the recent efforts of Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, particularly the demolition of illegal shanties and identified criminal hideouts across the state.

Describing the move as “highly commendable,” Okoro noted that no responsible government would allow criminal elements to take over public spaces under the guise of makeshift structures.

“These shanties often serve as bases for drug trafficking, armed robbery, and kidnapping operations. The governor’s decisive action is in the best interest of the state's security and development,” he emphasized.

He called on citizens of Imo State (Ndimo) to continue supporting government efforts aimed at restoring order and ensuring public safety.
