Tears as trader killed over #1500 Muslim levy in Ifo Market is buried
... INU-W condemns killings, blames Igbo leaders for being dormant
It was a moment of grief as Mrs. Blessing Eze, an Igbo trader and a mother, who was gruesomely murdered by thugs allegedly working for government over her refusal to pay an unwarranted levy meant for a Muslim Festival on 6th of June 2025 at Ifo Market in Ogun State was buried at her husband's ancestral home, Okpisi Ohaozara in Ebonyi State, last week.
Prior to her burial, Igbo traders in Ifo Market, Ogun State, organized a Service of Songs for her last respect at RCM Primary School, Ifo, Ogun State. It was a total lockdown of the market as virtually all the shops owned by Ndigbo were closed.
Regretting her untimely demise, a socio-cultural group that speaks for and protects the general interests of Igbos, the Igbo National Union World-wide (INU-W), who attended the funeral, described Blessing Eze's murder as unfortunate and deliberate.
In a release signed by the Admin Secretary of INU-W, Mazi Austin-Mary Ndukwu, the group lamented that it was shameful, shocking and saddening that no Igbo governor - political and religious leaders or Igbo groups rose in defense of the evil and wickedness perpetrated in Ifo Market, Ogun State - that took the life of Blessing Eze - not even Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
"As we bid our sister farewell, we enjoin every Igbo person, wherever you are, home or diaspora, to always be eternally vigilant for our enemies are everywhere seeking for our ruin and destruction - as Nigeria continues to wriggle with insecurity - all hands must be on deck to save our land and our people.
"Igbo National Union World-wide sounds it loud and clear that never again shall the blood of an Igbo be spilled again without a positive response and reaction from Ndigbo. Never again shall other tribes in Nigeria or beyond use us as human specimen. Every evil has expiry date.
"Those who derive joy in seeing us cry in anguish and pain with the governments of the day doing nothing to protect us should bear in mind that evil is always punished with evil.
"We will not fail to thank traders in Ifo Market for their diligence in making sure that our sister did not die in vain. INU-W salutes your courage and efforts", added.
