Ezegbogu in Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State, is set to witness a cultural and sporting spectacle as renowned philanthropist and community leader, Ezeji High Chief Dr. Summers Nwokie, akaji Ikukuoma Mbaise, hosts the grand finale of his annual Iri Ji Mbaise Festival and the 6th edition of the Ikukuoma Owerri Zonal Football Tournament, with a mouthwatering prize of ₦30 million.
The twin events, scheduled for Sunday, August 31, 2025, promise a rich blend of tradition, entertainment, and unity, drawing dignitaries, sports lovers, and cultural enthusiasts from across the country to the heart of Mbaise land.
In a statement during a courtesy visit from community leaders ahead of the festivities, Ikukuoma Mbaise used the occasion to emphasize the importance of active civic participation, urging citizens—especially youths—to take advantage of the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
“The 2027 elections may seem distant, but the journey begins now,” he said. “With many having lost or misplaced their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), this is a golden opportunity to register, update, or replace your PVCs. We must be prepared to vote for true democracy and credible leadership.”
A tireless advocate for grassroots empowerment, Ikukuoma Mbaise has long been a pillar of development in Owerri Zone, leveraging sports, education, and culture to uplift his people. His ₦30 million football tournament, now in its sixth edition, has become one of the most prestigious sporting events in the region, nurturing young talents and promoting community cohesion.
When asked about speculations surrounding a potential Senate bid for the Owerri Zone in 2027, the revered leader responded with characteristic humility and clarity.
“My focus right now is on encouraging political awareness and participation. If I choose to run, I believe my track record speaks for itself. But before any candidacy, we must all equip ourselves with the most powerful tool in democracy—the PVC.”
Supporters and political observers alike continue to view Ikukuoma Mbaise as a transformative figure in the region, with many touting him as the ideal candidate to represent Owerri Zone in the Senate. For now, however, all attention turns to Ezeagbogu for what promises to be a memorable celebration of culture, unity, and empowerment
