In a proactive effort to address food insecurity and enhance agricultural productivity, Senator Kenneth Emeka Eze, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, on Monday distributed a range of essential farm inputs to rural farmers across his constituency.

The distribution event, held in Senator Eze’s hometown in Ezza South Local Government Area, drew a large gathering of farmers, local leaders, and community stakeholders. The initiative aligns with the federal government’s agricultural transformation agenda under the Renewed Hope Initiative, as well as ongoing state-level efforts to revive the sector.

Addressing attendees, Senator Eze emphasized the pressing need for increased food production through large-scale farming, describing it as a sustainable response to Nigeria’s current food crisis.

“There is food insecurity in the country. People are hungry, and we are encouraging more people to return to farming,” Senator Eze stated. “Those who go to the farm will not only be able to feed themselves but also help feed the larger population.”

He praised the federal government’s renewed commitment to agricultural revitalization under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that lawmakers across the country are replicating these efforts in their constituencies. Senator Eze also commended the Ebonyi State Government, led by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for its continued support of farmers through regular input distribution programs.

During the event, the senator distributed:

  • 1,000 bags of certified rice seedlings
  • 2,000 bags of solid fertiliser
  • 500 cartons of liquid fertiliser

Senator Eze assured his constituents that this would not be a one-time initiative.

“This is not the last time. We did this last year, and we will continue to support our farmers to increase food production,” he affirmed.

He noted a positive shift in food availability and market prices, attributing the improvements to the collective efforts of federal, state, and local interventions.

“There was a time when food was so scarce that even money couldn’t buy it. Today, we’re seeing increased farm yields, and food is gradually becoming more accessible,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of access to quality agricultural inputs, Senator Eze concluded that such support significantly improves productivity, strengthens rural economies, and enhances national food security.
