Five days after, Uzodimma yet to visit bomb blast scene in Orsu, residents lament

Palpable fear is currently enveloping residents of Awo Idemili in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State following bomb explosion at Eke ubahaeze Market on 24th June,2025 which claimed life of a woman and left five others severely injured.
However, residents of the area have started blaming the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma for keeping mute and failure to visit the scene of the explosion since five days ago.
The residents expressed discomfort on the "delf ear" of the Governor and queried why he was busy going to the State House of Assembly to present what he(Uzodimma) called "state of the State Address" instead of planning how to arrest insecurity ravaging eventually every part of Imo State.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of Orsu LGA,Hon.Chief.Friday Ibekaeme has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic explosion that occurred at Ekeubahaeze Market, Awo Idemili, describing it as a devastating loss to the entire Community.
In a heartfelt message, he extended condolences to the affected families and assured them of the government's full support during this painful period.
Reacting swiftly, the Chairman announced the immediate launch of 24/7 security patrols across all wards in Orsu, aimed at restoring peace and preventing future attacks.
He strongly condemned the attack and vowed that the perpetrators will not go unpunished.
“We will hunt them down and ensure they face justice. Orsu will not be a safe haven for evil,” he declared.
Hon. Ibekaeme reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing lives and property,urging residents to remain vigilant and united.
In a related development, the Imo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation following the unfortunate incident that occurred on 24th June, 2025, at about 1430hrs, at Eke Ubaheze Market Square, Awo-Idemili in Orsu Local Government Area, Imo State, where an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated, resulting in the death of one person and injury to five others.
According to Police report signed by the Police Public Relations Officer,DSP Henry Okoye ,preliminary investigation revealed that the explosion occurred when Ngozi Umeh ‘F’, a middle-aged woman from Ubaheze village, stepped on a landmine suspected to have been planted by unknown terrorists. She was critically injured and later confirmed dead at the hospital, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
Upon receipt of the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, swiftly deployed operatives of the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Tactical Teams, and personnel from Orsu and Orlu Division to cordon off the area, evacuate victims, and sweep the market vicinity for any other planted IEDs. The area has since been declared safe, and normal activities have resumed under enhanced security surveillance.
In addition, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID)has been directed to commence a comprehensive investigation aimed at unmasking and apprehending the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police commiserates with the family of the deceased, late Ngozi Umeh, and prays for the quick recovery of the injured victims. He also assures the good people of Orsu LGA and Imo State at large that the Command remains resolute in its determination to root out all criminal elements threatening the peace of the state.
