Stakeholders Back Ekeanyanwu for Mbaitoli Council Chairmanship
By Kelechi Ugo
Ahead of the November 7, 2026 Local Government election in Imo State, political stakeholders and community leaders in Mbaitoli Local Government Area have thrown their weight behind Chief Comrade Uzoma Kingsley Ekeanyanwu in his bid to emerge as the next Executive Chairman of the Council.
Ekeanyanwu, who is regarded by his supporters as a vibrant and grassroots-oriented youth leader, is said to possess the leadership experience and community connections required to provide effective administration at the local government level.
He is the Traditional Prime Minister of Obi-Mbieri Autonomous Community, a position which, according to his supporters, has provided him with valuable experience in community leadership, conflict resolution and grassroots mobilisation.
Ekeanyanwu is also a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Mbaitoli, where he reportedly gained firsthand knowledge of local government administration and the challenges confronting workers and residents at the grassroots.
His supporters believe that his background in local government affairs gives him an advantage as he seeks to lead Mbaitoli Local Government Council.
Beyond his personal leadership credentials, Ekeanyanwu comes from a family with a history of participation in local government administration. His father was also a former Chairman of Mbaitoli Local Government Area, a record his supporters cite as evidence of the family's longstanding connection with the development and administration of the Council.
The stakeholders backing Ekeanyanwu are said to be attracted by what they describe as his youthfulness, administrative experience, grassroots accessibility and understanding of the needs of the people.
They believe that Mbaitoli requires a chairman who can bring together the various communities, engage stakeholders and promote programmes capable of improving the welfare of residents.
According to them, Ekeanyanwu's experience as a traditional community leader and former NULGE chairman has exposed him to both the traditional and administrative dimensions of grassroots leadership.
The stakeholders therefore urged the electorate and other political actors in Mbaitoli to support a candidate they believe can provide purposeful, inclusive and people-oriented leadership.
As the November 7 council election draws closer, attention is increasingly shifting to the candidates and their respective records, with supporters of Ekeanyanwu insisting that his combination of youthfulness, leadership experience and familiarity with local government administration makes him a strong choice for the Mbaitoli chairmanship.
For his supporters, the choice is about giving an experienced grassroots politician an opportunity to translate his years of community and local government experience into practical development for the people of Mbaitoli.
